Title Safe isn't enough
by David Benassi on Jul 1, 2009 at 9:01:15 pm

I just burned my 16x9 movie project to DVD and played it on my roomates 4x3 TV and discovered that an unacceptable portion of the picture is cut off. Not a surprise, I know, but I did fit my titles into the inner-most rectangle in FCP's 'title safe' function, but looking back now, that inner-most rectangle is far from a 4x3 ratio. My project will rarely be viewed on a 4x3 TV, so I'm not that worried, but I am wondering why my 'title safe' function totally let me down when it comes to 4x3 screens (rather common still!) as I would like at least the credits to be visible!! (esp. without me having to guess how centered they have to be from trial and error!)
Any one deal with a similar dilemma?

David
