Capturing footage to DVD

Hi,

I'm a newbie here so forgive me if I inadvertently do something wrong!

I want to know if its possible to capture Mini-DV footage to FCP and then transfer that footage (either by DVD or a HD) to another computer with FCP and start working on it?

So effectively could I give someone a DVD of footage as opposed to the actual Mini-DV tapes which they can import in to FCP and work on?

I would appreciate any help you guys can give.
