What type of camera recorded your footage? In the view screen of your camera/deck it will show the audio sample rate of the tape you're playing back, normally 16 bit 48kHz, If that's what it shows then just match your tape format and audio sample rate with the same capture preset in "Easy Setups".
Some cameras (like my PD170) will show a slightly different audio sample rate in the properties tab in the Browser window e.g instead of 48kHz it'll be something like 47.9997kHz instead. Don't worry about that and you can play back that audio in the timeline without issue if you go to the "Audio/Video Settings" and make sure that the playback quality is set to "lower".
Once you're ready to export your sequence you need to render everything and at that time FCP will not only render your video effects, etc. but will also render the audio to the correct sample rate of 16 bit 48kHz.
Hope this helps.
