NTSC for a PAL kind of gal

does anyone have a title safe guideline for NTSC? i've got 720 x 486 footage to work with, and i'm coming from a PAL background. google isn't helping!
also, when i make my 16:9 graphics in pal, I always have my comp set to 1024x576 because i prefer to see them crisp when working. when outputting i'll make them 720x576 so the editors are happy to import.
but what's the NTSC equivalent of doing this? By default AE is making my comp D1/DV NTSC (.09) but i'd prefer to work square while getting my graphics right. can i work square, then output my (graphics only) 720x486?
thanks guys, any thoughts appreciated.
