[dean chapman] "...i'm just comparing a title sequence that i imported into FCP, from AE.....and it just doesn't look quite as crisp as it does when working directly with FCP text....am i missing something?"

Nope. The DV codec treats graphics and text the way a baby treats a diaper.

If you were to export your FCP timeline with its nice, crisp text as a self contained movie, you would discover it didn't look quite as nice once you reimported it back into FCP.

DV is a lossy codec: it loses picture information. There's not a whole lot you can do about it except use something better, which means you pay more for your camera, more for your storage (because you'll need more of it, more for an AJA or Blackmagic card... you get the idea.
