illustrator layers not showing shadows on cont. raster

hey all,
I have got a map and some labels in separate layers from an AI file.
the lables are in a precomp that have motion, both the pre-comp and the layers in the pre-comp are set to 3d.
when i put the precomp on the final comp, the shadows appear fine... until you turn on continuously rasterize, then i get sharp lines but no shadows!
all layers and the precomp have the "cast shadows" box ticked.
Im at a bit of a loss.
Anyone know of a solution?
Many thanks!
