Open your precomposed grass blades comp. Go up to the menu bar and choose Composition>Pre-Render. In the Render Que, click Render and let AE render it out. It will automatically replace each instance of your precomp with the rendered out .mov.
Now, AE won't have to do the calculations for the grass blades and it should speed things up considerably.
