I think you're overthinking this. Why not just create a solid and apply a mask to it to get a thin line running across your comp. Apply Stylize>>Motion Tile to it and set the width to like 800 or 1000, something like that. Make the layer 3D and rotate it on the Y axis to the angle you need. Now you can add a camera and fly along the line. You can put your pictures, video, and text along different points of the line.
