My First Big Crash

After adding a Shatter effect to a comp AFX crashed. It gave me "ONE" opportunity to save the file with another name. Oddly enough, AFX overwrote the existing with the new name (?) not a "save as" and it will not open the saved/newly named file: Crash occurred while evoking plug-in "Shatter". I tried to get rid of Shatter by changing the name in the program files but still the same error message. I even repaired/re-installed AFX. No, I did NOT increment and save this one as I normally do. Any ideas other than shoot myself?
