Congrats on the new cam. I am not completely sure about the Canon, but I have a Panasonic SD9 that also records in the AVCHD format. You didn't state whether you work on a PC of MAC. I do all of my post on MACs, but luckily I have a PC to use, because the utility that Panasonic put out to convert AVCHD files into a usable/editable format only works on PC or PPC MACs (I am using a G5). So long story short I have to convert the footage from the cards into usable files and then transfer those over to my editor. Then it works just like P2 cards from there on out (Log & Transfer, etc.). I would assume there would be a similar utility for the Canon, or maybe even the Panasonic software would work?!? I hope this helps a little. I am sure someone knows better than I.
