You can do a simple Replace Footage command. On a Mac, you highlight the footage to be replaced, then option-drag the replacement footage from the project window to the comp window. I don't know the easy way to do it on a Windows box.

The replacement footage will take on ALL modified properties -- like scale -- and effects, plus any keyframes, etc. But if the footage has larger horizontal and vertical dimensions than the footage it replaces, you'll have to fix that yourself.
