you probably only have the powerpc versions of the codecs, rather than the universal binary versions...

so, if you can find universal versions of the codecs (which is what i would recommend), you will be able to use them in cs3 (intel native version).

or, if you can't find them (or just need to get something done in a pinch), you can force cs3 to run under rosetta. this will force cs3 to run the powerpc version (fyi, you actually have 2 versions of ae on you mac) and will give you access to the powerpc codecs... to do this, just select the ae cs3 application icon and choose file>get info, then check the box that says something like 'open using rosetta'. this will open the powerpc version (with separate prefs and all).

i would imagine you will face some of the same problems as running ae7 under rosetta... like opengl accelerated effects crashing ae if the accelerate using opengl option is on in the preview pref (just uncheck the box to avoid problems); somewhat restricted ram usage by rosetta (for more info on this, check out graham jones' thread on how to use ae7 with intel macs); save often when using any cycore effect (the effects prefixed with 'cc'), at least they were pretty unstable with ae7 on intel macs. also, try not to have any other rosetta applications running at the same time (that one is pretty easy these days). i'm not sure how multiprocessing will be affected.

you can also use this method to get access to any non-universal effects that you may have, just fyi...

to revert back to the intel native version, just do the get info trick, and uncheck the rosetta box.
