AE crashes and takes Windows with it!

Good day all.
Has anyone else had trouble with AE crashing Windows?
I recently re-installed Windows XP.
Just about each time I attempt to do something even *remotely* complex, Windows XP will re-boot itself. I'm thinking it's a graphics card problem, but I haven't had this problem in the past. Could it be my Windows XP re-install altered something that wasn't supposed to be altered?
My graphics card is an Nvidia 7600 GS, running AE 7. Pentium 4 3GHZ with HyperThreading (yeah, its somewhat outdated, but I didn't have this problem until my recent re-install).
Thanks for any help!
