How would I go about creating a vid like this?

Im getting started in the business and am curious as to just what goes into creating an effects heavy video like the creed video below.

What's required onset in terms of lighting, props etc and in post in terms of motion tracking and compositing.

I noticed a lot of 3d but would this type of project require that it be composited in a 3d app or would this be possible in After Effects?

Is the sand storm done in 3d?

Any help would be much appreciated.
