yes, my bg image is probably 8 mega pixels, maybe higher. i have a bunch of cloud elements placed throughout the comp that are displacing and rotating slightly, but i still don't see how 17 seconds is taking 3 hours to render. i've rendered out much more complex projects that were 4 times as long is half the time of this.
