Hey Ed,
I was wondering the same thing. So far, I don't think you can directly import .kmz OR .dae files into AfterEffects directly. I tried playing with some 3D .dae files in Photoshop in an attempt to bring them over to AE in a way that would keep their 3D-ness. No luck. I loved the 3D watch tutorial by Eran Stern but really it isn't so much a 3D watch as a 3D-esqe 2D image, scaled up.
