Flowing Sine Wave

Hey guys, I was wondering if you had any idea to create like a flowing wave, I've seen it in a number of videos and things, especially in the ps3 menu. It'd also be nice if there randomness to the amplitude and frequency to the wave .

I'm just wondering how you create that wave-like motion, is it wave world + Echo + Glow? I can't figure it out....

Thanks guys, any suggestions would be helpful!
