Unless there is just no way you can afford it, get the Duck. I've only had it for a few weeks, but I don't know how I got by without it before.

The other alternative is to use Premiere Pro.. You can open those projects directly in AE. I know you were asking about FCP, but maybe you or others didn't know that about Premiere..
