[MReimel] "I have been working on a comp and notice my black background is a little less black then the pillar boxes on the widescreen tv when viewing."

That's because the black normally used for TV applications isn't quite black. Your TV set shows you NOTHING in the pillarboxed areas, and the nothing -- also known as Setup -- is blacker than black. It's a tad confusing. The Nothing.... ever see the movie, "The Neverending Story?"

"How can I make sure my black background is the same black background as the pillar boxes?"

Well, you can't, really... not unless you want to make stuff that only you can play on your own set, because you can't give it to other people to play because of the illegal black levels. Besides, you'd probably have to misadjust your Kona card to get it to make illegal blacks.
