[How did they do this?] Cut up paper to create a Snowflake.

this is one of the coolest pieces I've seen in a while:

I'm wondering if anyone knows how they may have created
the snowflake effect - where the paper gets cut up and unfolded into a snowflake. a little bit later on they
use the a similar effect to fold an image like a piece of paper.
