Why is my video footage small when transferring to AF

I have looked around the internet and can't find anyone else who has my problem but my problem is when I transfer my footage from Premiere to AF the video is so much small, its very hard to work in. Is my video footage low quality or am I doing something wrong when I transfer the video. It's rather frustrating but I would be most appreciative to anyone that has ideas.
