you probably want to try using the write-on effect for this.
you can usually simply copy/paste your plane's position properties in to the write-on brush position property, or you can enable expressions for that property (select the property, then select animation>add expression) and use the expression pickwhip and drag it to the position property of the plane layer.
the expression method will allow you to make changes to the plane animation and have that also update the write-on effect.
