To add to what Ted suggested, if you have glows I would suggest changing the background color of your comp(cntl + K) to a color that's similar to your glow color. Often if I'm rendering text with a glow with a straight alpha as the alpha fades off I pick up black outlines. By changing the background color and using a pre-multiplied alpha as the alpha fades in the glow area it picks up a color similar to your glow rather than black.

Least that how it works on an avid.
