Playhead and Material lag when scrubbing

Will someone try and help me out on this one:

I am on a new MacBook Pro 17" with Media Composer 3.5.
We are connected to a Mojo SDI and our Quicktime is 7.6.2.
Our media is on an external firewire drive, a rugged Lacie; using phantom power from the laptop.

When we scroll through the footage on the source window or the timeline ; the playhead lags. It skips and jumps and its super annoying; totally disrupting my workflow.

Any suggestions?
