Re: MXF EXPORT

Hey Jeremy, I'll give you the "big picture".
I work for an international non-profit organization. We have an in-house A/V department with 4 FCP suites. As of now each work station is an island unto itelf. We are not networked together. We are currently looking into a MAM system which would not only streamline our current workflow (we have started shooting on P2 cards - DVCPro 50 SD for now), but also serve as a way to ingest our vast archive which currently is on (a few thousand) DigiBeta cassettes. We want to keep and preserve lots of original footage as well as past and future edited Master programs. The tapes are for the most part catalogued with Imagine products TepX and that data is thrown into a rather rudimentary ACCESS based database. So now we are looking to make a major step and investment towards preservation and archiving of all our legacy footage. Most of the injested clips will be dumped to LTO tapes and we'll keep online in lower quality proxys shots that are used more frequently.
As to your question: We will be keeping everything in MXF format (wrapper). The finished sequence in FCP would be exported and uploaded onto the system to be catalogued, distributed etc. We are currently working in 8 or 10 bit uncompressed.

We have chosen to use MXF wrapper throughout because it is more universal and it has the capability include relevant metadata.

Sorry if this was long winded but I thought it might be helpful to include the framework of the problem.
Thanks for your time.
