Real DVCPRO HD Bitrate?
by Dylan Reeve on Aug 23, 2008 at 11:30:53 pm

100Mb/s is the simple answer for DVCPRO HD data rate, but not totally accurate, at least in some cases.

I've been working with Varicam, at 25fps which actually results in a datarate of 42Mb/s ((100 / 60) * 25). So that's the case for Varicam, does it apply equally to all DVCPRO HD recording? Is 720p at DVCPRO done with static data allocations per-frame - so will a 720p frame in DVCPRO HD always be 1.66Mb?

I haven't got any 1080 footage to look at.

How does the achieved bitrate vary from the format bitrate in different modes? What are the real achieved bitrates for 1080i50 and 720p25 with P2 acquisition?
