To expand on what Neal said...

From Barry Green's book, "The first bar denotes - 20dB, and the second denotes- 12dB. Each dot corresponds to 2 dB of signal strength. Absolute peak is at 0dB and should be avoided...The graph will show a red mark at its rightmost edgewhenever the audio "peaks.""
