Can HVX store directly to external firewire HD

Hi,

Am wondering whether you can store directly to an external 2.5" FW HD as you shoot in place of the P2 cards.

Or do you really need Firesotre (or the other similar product with a different brand)

Has anyone tried this?

If you do need a firestore, what's the difference between that and just a plain old 2.5 phantom powered FW HD?
