Several people have mentioned HD D5 as a mastering format, and while HD D5 kicks major butt, I will mention the same comments I made regarding HD SR, which is that the deck is too expensive to be intergrated into the workflow of a $9000-ish camera. That deck and a P2 camera combined would actually cost more than a Varicam and the 1800 DVCPROHD deck. And it rents up here in NY for around $1800 a day, plus the required insurance. Now if I had a feature film or some sort of long format project, that's not a problem, but that's not a deck I could rent on a continual basis or purchase to integrate into the P2 workflow. It's a matter of budetary mismatch. The Panasonic AJ-HD3700A HD-D5 deck (which records 1080/24p) at $100,000 is simply too expensive to be practical with an under 10k camera.

I'm positive that panasonic will annouce some sort of solution that doesn't require the use of deck that costs over 10x what the camera costs. The ususal budgetary match is that the required deck costs less than the camera itself, but is somehat similar in price.
