Live digital photo capture/viewing on a Mac

I always see professional photographers on TV viewing their shots on a Mac immediately (or what looks like it is immediately) after they take the shot. I am not sure what type of configuration that is but I believe it should be a fairly easy setup. (I remember reading about how to do it in one of my photo magazines that I cannot find).
I am not sure if this was done natively in Photoshop, Aperture or Lightroom, with just a simple USB connection from the Mac to camera.
I have the Mac. Photoshop, Aperture and a Nikon D80.
Am I thinking something crazy or is this possible?
Mac Pro dual-quad Xeons, 8GB RAM, 1 - 500GB HD, 1 - 750GB HD,
Mac OS X, Dual - 23" HD Apple Monitors
