Seems like a shame that Nikon has a lens like the 17-55 mm 2.8, with so much going for it, but its' marred by this focussing issue. I recently bought a new camera and several lenses but I left a lens in this range off my purchase off because I wasn't sure what to get. Frankly I haven't missed a lens in this range as much as I thought I would. I have some things to get by with ( like my 50mm 1.8, etc).Of course, I will miss this range eventually. This is the lens I've planned would really be my "meat and potatoes" lens, probably using it for 60-70% of my shots. But like I say, surprisingly, I haven't missed it that much, yet.

The 17-35 2.8 seems a little short. On the other hand, I just don't want to spend over $1,300 bucks on a 17-55 and find I'm handicapped by this focussing issue. Maybe I'll get that lens that fits the D70 kit. I wanted to get really only top notch lenses but I hear this one is close and the price is right. It is a lot easier to take since the others have issues. Anybody hear about any issues wth the 17-35 on digital? (That would be about 26-50 mm on a 1.5 crop sensor so I might go that way.)

Richard
