Ha! Funny, I've just been doing this.
We've been using a Nikon D70 connected to a mac with Nikon capture software. You need to power the camera via an ac adapter.
It shoots a maximum of 4fps in timelapse mode and you can make this indefinite.
You might want to look into some of the other SLRs to see what they do.
The key is to capture into a computer this will enable you to shoot faster timelapse.
