Bill, never use the mirror lock up for cleaning, if you accidently hit the shutter the mirror will drop. This could lead to damaging your sensor. Use the sensor cleaning mode, then the shutter won't return until the camera is powered down. That's why the manuals always recomend using the AC adapter, because otherwise your battery might die and drop the mirror.
