Cannot select text in spry tab in design view

I am using Dreamweaver CS4 using spry tabbed panels. When I click on the eye in the tab to edit the contents, I can only edit it in the code, not in the design view. When you click on the content in the design view, it highlights all the text and there appears to be a big flashing cursor at the right of the panel.

Any ideas as to what I have done to bring about this state of affairs?
