In all honesty there is no universal way to do this cleanly through the spry dropdown. There are ways to hack it and make it work for specific cases by adjusting the top value as you know but this will not give you clean results. The main reason is because of the natural stacking order and progression of elements in HTML is down and there is no "clean" way, that I know of to flip this.

I have seen some development for the reversal of the block-progression property in the works for use with other languages that need the flow of their text to go in opposite directions but from what I can tell this is not fully developed.

I suggest using the drop down rather than drop up menu...
