Spry vs Flash

Spry vs Flash

I've seen webpages with a graphic that slides in to cover the image below it. One used Flash, the other Spry.

What I noticed is that the Flash animation was very smooth, while the Spry one stuttered a little as it moved.

I'm guessing the difference is that only Flash can preload, but I'm not sure...any thoughts? Thanks.
