Are you prepared to work in AS2 or AS1? I think Flash CS4 (only a CS3 user myself, so apologies if this is out of date) should be able to open these files with the original publish settings and allow you to save. You'll then only be able to work on them again with CS4, but you shouldn't have to recreate anything.
