Audio in Flash MX 2004

Hi,
Fairly new to Flash, and in the midst of an interactive educational series of animations. I have created a series of movie clips and imported them to the library and placed them on the stage underneath a frame consisting of buttons that will take the viewer to the different clips. There are also buttons to make the playing movie clip stop or resume play.
All was going well until I tried to add narrations. I imported an MP3 of narration in a layer above an animation and exported the movie as swf. When I imported the clip to the library of the compiled movies, placed it on the stage and tested the movie, I do not hear the audio that played when the original animation was tested.
I have four animations requiring narration underneath the frame of buttons. Is there away to "place" the audio in the original movies and have them work when imported into a new flash movie?
I have tried importing the audio into the compiled flash movie and works ok but I am concerned about the stop and play button for the animations as well as the button taking the viewer to the next animation. I feel I loose some of the control.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
