Hi Mike. I'll try to answer your questions below...

"How long can a Flash doc be, before it starts to effect load time?"
The length of your movie is not the thing to worry about when it comes to load time, its the amount of graphics, audio, video, etc in your file. As for a target file size it really depends on the application. For a rich media type of site I wouldn't go over a couple of megs. For all other things I have an "under a meg" rule that I always follow.

"How large can I make the viewer, in which my Flash doc is shown in? Does the viewer size effect the file size that much?"
You can make your movie as big as you want and again it will be your symbols and media that will make or break the filesize.
