Blank Composition Screen in Cinema 4D?

Hello, I have recently installed Cinema 4D. When i open the program the composition window is either filled with all white or all black. I can place objects in the windows and they will appear in the odjects windows although the screen remains white. Then when I hit render it simply renders a jet black. Does this have something to do with my video card? Or perhaps something is wrong with the program?
