Annoying LatheNURBS 'seam'

Hi everyone,
I just imported a spline from Illustrator and dropped it into a LatheNURBS. After a 360 rotate I rendered the result - which was supposed to look like one of those a russian dolls ...and it did - except that when I rotated it around i spotted this annoying seam which corresponds with where the original spline profile is.
When I took this object into bodypaint the seam really began to get on my nerves. I tried redoing the spline in C4D but got exactly the same result.
Any ideas on how I get a completely smooth surface no matter where I am viewing from? Am i just going about this the wrong way?
thanks a lot for any assistance offered.
