New hobbyist. Naive hardware question

HI
I've got a Dell Inspiron 2400
2.4 Ghz 1/2 Gig of Ram
80 & 300 gig Hd's.

The machine was purchased for me as a rehab effort following a brain-injuring viral attack that I had 4 years ago.

I'd like to explore C4D as a therapy/ hobby, but with Christmas fast approaching could someone tell me what I might need in a video card, or roughly how much I should expect it to run me?

Please indulge me.
I'm to young to knit beer-can-hats as a pass-time.
