My experience with the DSR-45 is that it is not accurate all the time. Especially not when using it to record DV. FWIW, certain DV camcorders have the same problem, so we shouldn't single out Sony. The Sony 1500, 1600, 1800 and 2000 decks have proven to be very accurate doing this sort of thing.
As for the drift, it could be the DF thing, but I'm sure you can easily determine if the source footage and the recording mode of the deck were different.
