I have had good success with MOTU interfaces in general. An interesting recent MOTU product is the Traveler which has 4 mic/pre's and is built for portable applicactions. One must also keep in mind that processor speed can dramatically affect latency and make audio appear sluggish. MOTU's Cue/mix DSP does away with latency in monitoring which can be a very useful feature.
