Using Ikan momitor with nanoFlash

Connecting my nano to a HD TV displays both live and recorded images via HDMI, in superb detail, but shows up manual focus errors, especially using the small finder screen of Canon XLH1.
So I have purchased an ikan v5600, but find it will not display anythingat all via the same HDMI connection that works so well to the TV. No image comes up on the ikan screen either as live image while recording (or on standby), nor as playback from the cards in the nanoflash.
When connected to the TV via HDMI, there's a live image while camera is on standby and while recording, when one can compose, focus etc. It seems strange that HDMI to the ikan monitor does not do the same. The camera is PAL, as is the TV, and the ikan is both PAL and NTSC.
The ikan works perfectly when connected by the same HDMI cable to my Canon EOD 50D, both for live viewing and replay.
In summary, the XLH1 connects to the TV, the Canon Eos connects to the ikan, but the nano won't connect to the ikan.
Has anyone successfully used this or similar monitor with the nanoflash (or flash xdr) , either using the HDMI output, or the SDI out ?
If the ikan cannot be used via the nanoflash, can it be used direct from the SDI out of the camera... which I suppose would need a double adapter to take monitor and nano from same outlet?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
