Yes, you are right. This is more of an experimental camera, so I could play around with HD. I plan on picking up an HVX-200 or possibly the new Sony EX camera soon( the only drawback on the Sony is the MPEG2 compression, as far as I can tell, ie. 4:2:0).
Anyway, thanks for the info. I think my money is better spent on the new camera, then trying to get this little guy to do something its not intended to do.
fyi, right now I injest via USB with FCP's "Log and Transfer" and can choose from the Apple Intermediate or ProRes codec. This results in some big files, almost 1 GB per minute. I have not tried, but assume I can back up the original files, which are much smaller, on data DVD. And injest at a later date.
