Depending on the editing software and hardware you are using the Nano would allow you to capture the HDMI signal from your camera completely digital. If you are using a Mac or PC together with the an HD-SDI capture card I would say yes this is the best all digital real time signal your camera can reproduce. Not sure how else you can work with AVCHD files and I believe your camera uses an on board hardware processor to decompress the AVCHD file into a 1920x1080 uncompressed HD signal.
