Hi Kevin-
There is comparison chart on our web site which summarizes the differences. Go to the home page and clock on the "HD-Connect Family Summary". The audio and time-code are embedded in the HD-SDI output on all the HD-Connect products.

I am fairly certain you will not get independent clips based on the "start/stop" breaks in the capture. This is certainly true on Sony and as I recall also for Canon. For JVC tapes, however, you will get a time-code break, as JVC creates an MPEG2 discontinuity whenever the capture is interrupted (even with a "record-pause" event).
