SDI out to DVW-500
by Brent Waters on Oct 24, 2005 at 9:22:32 pm

Hi, I am a long time user of SD-Connect (ProMedia Converter) and I have a couple of questions. I am reconfiguring my edit suite, and it is more complicated than an average suite, due to several decks and devices.

1. I have been connecting SDI out from my decklink card to a Sony DVW-500 when printing to D-Beta, and to the SD-Connect for normal audio/video monitoring. When I use the SDI out from the SD-Connect to the SDI in on the DVW-500, the deck displays that it is not receiving audio, but continues to pass through channels 1-2. When I switch back to using SDI directly from the decklink card, audio is received normally. Not a huge problem, but something I wanted to let you know about.

2. I use FCP 5 with Panther (not Tiger) because our systems administrators find this OS to be more stable than Tiger. Is 10-bit Uncompressed over 1394 going to be supported for Panther?

3. My decklink card in my G5 does not have genlock, and I have a blackburst generator for house sync. FCP Playback is SDI out from Decklink to SDI in on SD-Connect. From the SD-Connect, I monitor video via component out to a broadcast monitor, and audio via balanced out to an amplifer, then to Tannoy Reveal speakers. It seems that I have to power cycle the SD-Connect often to keep everything in sync. On the SD-Connect "System" menu, I have "Vid Src Genlocked" checked, and "External Reference" unchecked. I assume using this setup that the SD-Connect is locking to the SDI signal, so I don't know why it would go out of sync when I haven't changed any settings. Is there a different configuration that I should be using?

4. Are there going to be more updates/upgrades for the SD-Connect? It seems that there is more being done with the HD-Connect.

Thanks, and sorry for the long post.
