ok, let me change the subject (get away from error code -41) to discuss what is the basis of all my posts (and ignorance).

When you setup a shared volume on OS X Server, with default permissions (whatever is normally setup by Server admin, which is usually rwxr-xr-x), you go to work. Editor 1 creates his files, Editor 2 creates his files on the same volume. Editor 2 wants to move files into editor 1's folder, and he can't do it, because of permissions (r-x)

The reason this is happening is because all OS X Mac's have a umask of 0022, which makes any file the client computer create or any folder the client computer creates on the shared volume 755
(like if you were to do chmod 755 /volumes/sharedfolder).
This is the default of what happens. But of course, for our industry applications, you want editor 1 and editor 2 to be able to have full access to each others folders without manual administration by the IT department. NOW, I could change the umask of every damn MAC FCP client to umask 0000, to it writes the new files and folders with open permissions (777), but this seems insane to have to manually do this on every system.

SO, how do you do it. I am sure you are in the same situation - you have editor 1, editor 2, editor 3, etc. and they all want access to each others folders, including write. What do you do ?

Thanks -
Bob Zelin
